Country Director

Our Country Directors are at the sharp end of transformation as you work with our partners to reach isolated communities. The role requires you to be able to successfully navigate significantly diverse functions. As the leader of a multinational team you will be instrumental as you inspire you team to achieve our vision. You will need to work with local partners, regulatory authorities and country officials to achieve the program goals.

You will ensure all operational activities in the program are carried out within the approved annual budget by monitoring internal control systems and taking corrective action where necessary. You will also ensure that all operational activities of the program are well coordinated, safe and efficient.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential requirements:

  • Excellent spoken and written English. Some programs also require fluent French
  • University graduate or equivalent experience
  • Extensive leadership and general management experience at a senior level
  • Spiritual leadership experience within an interdenominational context

HR Manager

Papua New Guinea (PNG) is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. It is also one of the most rural, as only 18% of its people live in urban centers. Most of the population live in very remote areas where walking is the only option. Getting to the nearest hospital or town often involves days of treacherous trekking through hills, rivers and forests.

We have a great opportunity for a HR Manager to join our program  in PNG. This exciting role is crucial in supporting the Country Director in achieving the organization’s strategic and operational objectives. You will also work closely with the Asia Pacific HR Manager, and the International Recruitment Manager to provide HR Advice and support to Management and Staff of MAF PNG.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role, you will need a desire to work with people and see staff developed and nurtured both professionally and spiritually. Using your HR experience, you will manage the recruitment and induction of international and locally employed staff. This will involve working with the PNG Orientation Committee, MAFI Recruitment team and the wider MAFI HR Team.  Your ability to build good relationships will be important, as you manage the appropriate support and well-being of program staff, employees, visitors and CRMF International Staff, with the help of MAFI pastoral team, and member care.

As the HR Manager for the PNG Program, you will be responsible with your HR team, to oversee, develop, maintain, communicate, and enforce effective HR policies, procedures and systems. Overseeing the application and renewal processes for passports, work permits, visas and other matters involving the Departments of Labor and Immigration is an integral part of the position. Monitoring staff movements, leave, furlough and facilitating effective performance management, including reward and discipline are also essential functions of the role.

As part of the PNG leadership team, you will actively contribute to the team meetings, discussions and decisions. You will also oversee management of educational staff, hostel parents, member care volunteers, the Orientation Committee and HR Department staff.

The role includes visiting remote bases in PNG and occasional international travel.

Safety Manager

Papua New Guinea is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. It is also one of the most rural, as only 18 per cent of its people live in urban centers and the rest live in very remote areas with no option of transport being available due to the tough terrain. To ensure the safety of our operations in PNG we are seeking a person who will be responsible for implementing and running the Safety Management System in our PNG (Mt Hagen) operations.

This is a great opportunity to work with the Regional Safety Managers and support them in implementing global safety standards in the program.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:

  • Excellent communication and being able to communicate clearly across both geographical and cultural boundaries
  • Further education or equivalent experience
  • Competent to develop and produce reports and recommendations to senior management
  • Experience of working in aviation (past experience in or has a commercial pilot license, flight instructor, and/or aircraft maintenance engineer roles)

Business & Administration South Sudan

Short Term Finance Manager

South Sudan is a country located in East Central Africa which shares a border with six neighboring countries. It is a young sovereign nation having gained independence in 2011. Since then, it has struggled with nation building and good governance. In recent years conflict between government and opposition forces killed tens of thousands and led to a dire humanitarian crisis with millions of South Sudanese displaced and food insecure.

The terrain and geographical barriers including the Sudd, one of the worlds largest wetlands, means that those that live there struggle to gain access to some of those services we take for granted. A three-hour flight for one of our partners can save a weeks journey overland in the dry season and a month in the wet season.

We are looking for a Finance Manager on a 1 year short term contract to join the South Sudan team.

MAF will provide housing in Juba, travel costs, medical and life insurance, pension contributions and a living allowance of £26,000 per annum (pro rata).

Responsibilities:

Your role will be to provide financial management to the South Sudan program. This will include preparing the annual budget, financial monthly accounts including re-forecasts to the end of the year and provide financial information to the program manager and other department heads when required.

As the manager you will supervise the finance staff in their duties, providing them with clear feedback, training, development and mentoring. You will oversee the payments of wages and benefits to program national staff.

You will need to manage the financial risk by maintaining accounting systems and internal controls that comply with the MAFI finance manual. You will develop and improve systems and controls as necessary.

To ensure that the requirement of the regulating authorities are met you will arrange for external audits and filing of accounts. You will prepare and submit any tax returns and forms and assist staff with filing tax information if required.

As part of the program leadership team you will monitor financial performance and recommend appropriate corrective action and advise on the financial implications of proposals discussed.

There is an occupational requirement for the job holder of this position to be a committed Christian. The post holder will be expected to lead and take part in prayer and biblical reflection and to be a role model for the organization in accordance with our Christian beliefs and standards in the work place.

Executive Assistant to Country Director

MAF is seeking an experienced Executive Assistant (EA) to work with the PNG Country Director. The EA will assist the Country Director in the day to day tasks of the organization including management of diaries, events and meetings, taking minutes and managing subsequent actions.

Other duties will include liaising with government ministers, departments and other organizations. This role has a high level of authority to help manage and represent the needs and interests relating to the activities of the MAF PNG Country Director.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential:

  • Good secondary school education with a high proficiency in English
  • Proficiency in the range of MS Office tools
  • 3+ years experience as an Executive Assistant, including liaison, publication and communications experience

Program Chaplin and Member Care Support

We operate in Papua New Guinea, which is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world. Only 18 percent of its population live in urban centers. The majority live in very remote areas with little or no transportation options. MAF PNG is one of our biggest programs where we support local infrastructure and logistics surrounding missions. From life-saving medical evacuations to transporting essential supplies, MAF transforms the lives of the people of this country physically and spiritually.

To support this vital work in PNG, we now require a Program Chaplain and Member Care Support couple who will be responsible for providing pastoral care and counselling to both international and locally employed team members within the PNG Programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Given the unique stresses of the PNG context and the large number of team members (more than 120 international, including dependents), this is an instrumental role to ensure that team members go beyond merely ‘surviving’ their ministry calling in PNG with MAF, to truly ‘thriving’!
  • Beyond the pastoral care / counselling aspect, this role includes elements of hospitality, orientation coordination, and facilitation of support for remotely based team members. Effective care will result in improved retention rates of both internationally and locally employed team members. This position is best suited for a co-ministering couple.
