Larry grew up in Papua New Guinea as a missionary kid to parents who served with Wycliffe. After working in the aviation industry in Canada for 10 years, he felt led to use his skills for mission work. In 1984, he went to Ethiopia to serve as a Pilot/Engineer with MAF.
Ruth, also a missionary kid, spent her first 17 years in Ethiopia, where her parents served with SIM. After college in the USA, she felt an interest in serving the Lord overseas, and returned to Ethiopia as a teacher. Larry and Ruth met and married there in 1986, and then moved to Papua New Guinea in 1987, where Larry served with MAF as an Engineer and Ruth as a teacher.
Since 2013, Larry has served as the Turbine Engine Specialist for MAF International, travelling to programs all over the world to ensure that MAF continues Flying for Life, while maintaining a high standard of operating excellence. In 2018, the Nicholsons relocated to Uganda where Larry would be more strategically positioned to use his skills and experience to offer support to MAF Engineering in Africa. Ruth serves as the Visitor Coordinator for the MAF Uganda program. Larry and Ruth have five adult children: Shane, Brett, Luke, Scott and Laura.
Larry and Ruth welcome your partnership through prayer and financial support as they continue to serve through MAF.
